Recycler celebrates his 15th birthday with a new sound!
12 August 2009
Over the last fifteen years, Recycler the rapping robot has taught more than one and a half million school children to reduce, reuse and recycle. This summer he is celebrating his birthday with a brand new rap!
The ever popular show, led by Recycler with help from a Waste Watch education officer, shows young people why it is important to reduce their waste in a fun and interactive way. It is totally adaptable so as to be suitable for every age of children and includes messages about each of the 3 R’s as well as how to reduce food waste. Not only changing behaviour at school, Recycler encourages the children to take the message back home to mum and dad and make sure they also get the recycling habit.
The creation of the new rap was itself a learning experience, as Waste Watch collaborated with staff and pupils at Canterbury College to record and produce the new sound. Catherine Doran, Head of Education and Community at Waste Watch, is delighted with the results: "The new rap brings Recycler into the 21st century. As well as creating a memorable educational experience for young people, it really gets pupils to understand the importance of recycling."
Albemarle Primary School in Wandsworth was one of the first schools to see the all new Recycler in action. Jackie Nolan their Eco Schools Co-ordinator was impressed: "The show was fantastic! It was really fun, the students were amazed to have a robot interacting with them and they learned a lot."
