Recycle Western Riverside wins funding for Love Food Hate Waste campaign in London

25 September 2008

Recycle Western Riverside has won nearly £150,000 in funding from the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to run a timely food waste prevention campaign in London.

Love Food Hate Waste has received huge media attention nationally and will now target residents in Hammersmith and Fulham, Lambeth, Wandsworth and Kensington and Chelsea.

The campaign aims to educate consumers around issues of food planning, shopping, storage and preparation to help reduce the estimated £420 worth of edible food every household needlessly throws away each year.

The campaign will launch in the Western Riverside region in November with a high profile advertising campaign, as well as community events, roadshows and activities in local primary and secondary schools.

Mark Broxup, General Manager at the Western Riverside Waste Authority, said: "This campaign will support our efforts to reduce waste, especially in the lead up to Christmas when we all produce more rubbish. It also comes at an important time for many families who may be feeling the pinch from the credit crunch. This campaign will show people how they can help the environment and save money at the same time".
