A passer-by takes in the new recycling poster campaign.

Recycling summer ads

1 June 2005

Recycle Western Riverside has just launched an innovative outdoor advertising campaign to remind residents of the different materials that can be recycled over the summer.

The three month long campaign is running on bus shelters and in tube stations across the four London boroughs of Lambeth, Hammersmith and Fulham, Wandsworth and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

The three different poster designs take on a new and creative approach to promote the recycling of key materials used during summer activities such as plastic suntan lotion bottles, glass mayonnaise jars, beer bottles, cardboard food containers and magazines.

The different posters show three typical summer scenes; barbecuing, sunbathing and watching sport on TV. All have the strap line "This summer.....Rest, Relax, Recycle" and name the recyclable items that are depicted.

Annette Mayne, Communications Co-ordinator for the Recycle Western Riverside campaign, said:  “Over the summer there is an increase in the use of plastic drinks bottles, glass bottles and glass jars.  The aim of the ads is to remind local residents what can be recycled over the summer months in a matter-of-fact way.  The ads form part of our communications campaign to encourage residents to make recycling part of their everyday routine.”
