With thousands of tonnes of potentially reusable items thrown away in London every year, Western Riverside Waste Authority (WRWA) is working in partnership with London Reuse Network to provide an innovative new reuse collection service to give unwanted furniture and household items a new lease of life.
The service which launched on 4th January 2012 in the London Boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham and Wandsworth and will eventually be rolled out across London will collect items that are in good or repairable condition. Items collected will include furniture, soft furnishings, children’s equipment, toys and gardening equipment. It will also collect electrical items such as fridges and washing machines. Residents will be able to use the new service to have items they no longer want or need collected knowing they will be appreciated by someone else.
The new service will provide training for 60 young people on long-term job seekers allowance by preparing them for the workplace. The service will be working in partnership with Groundwork who will train 16-25 year old job seekers to repair items at the REWORK workshop located at Smugglers Way, Wandsworth.
The service is easy to use, residents can call the reuse hotline 020 3142 8506 or visit Londonreuse.com to get their unwanted household items collected from their home and delivered either to the workshop for repair, or to a storage depot for resale. For a full list of goods that can be collected please visit

There will be a fee for the service, but it will cost no more than booking a bulky waste collection from your council. The service will also be launched in the London Borough of Lambeth, in March 2012 and in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in April 2012.
